I don't really agree that the player base is growing myself. I think it is in decline at the moment. It has been since 2008, IMO.

The U.S. accounted for most of the real growth within the industry. A few years worth of frustration with funding and players getting paid has finally taken it's toll.

I don't think we will fully recover until the U.S. regulates. I think the affiliate landscape will be different than what we are currently used to, but I also think there will be a lot of money to be made again as an affiliate when this happens. JMO.
See this is the crux of the matter. Online gaming is supposedly not declining.

Take a look at this report for 2010. It's up around 12%.

I tend to believe this report. Even though many stopped playing, gamblers are still going to play and new ones replace the old ones. I believe we did not grow as much as we would have without the legal and depositing challenges we've seen. However, I definately believe the number of online gamblers is up and steadily growing.

Which brings me back to why some are folding? Mismanagement? To much competition? To much of a challenge perhaps and easier to sell out.

It just occured to me, it can't be that tough. Golden Palace just bought a lock of Justin Beibers hair for over 40k.

To be fair, it's for charity. They are always buying whacky things. Must be in their marketing plan.

It is in their marketing plan.

You mentioned it didn't you? Others will as well so it will get their name out there on some stories and media outlets where it would not have been otherwise.

Some good points made on both sides of whether the industry has grown or not...

Also don't forget there are thousands more affiliates today than existed a few years ago.

Good point rick, more affys. I don't think anyone has successfully tallied up the number of affiliates and sites are out there. I think many folded with the laws changing but they are replaced at a faster rate.

How many casinos/poker/sb operators are there now?
