Thumbs down Beware of Mecca Hosting

I tried this hosting service. I was disturbed to learn that they have a practice of changing your url to their own without your knowledge or permission. This is done so that their site piggybacks on yours. Consider all the sites they do this to that they host. It makes their site much bigger naturally. Note it is targeted to google. My bad was that I didn't remember the adage "you get what you pay for". I was out of there as fast as I could.

Once they changed my url, there were certain elements that wouldn't show up for visitors (the gpwa seal for example). Google picked it up and as we all know it takes a bit to recover on its own, once I got rid of it. Damage was done.

I'm posting this in hopes that anyone considering a hosting service use a trusted and true host, recommended by someone you trust. Never pick a random server like I did!

Mecca refuses to change their policy. You can see more, and Mecca Hosting response here:

I hear ya Mojo! Will post on DP tonight. DP members are a mixed bag of all sorts. However, in regards to Mecca Hosting they should all agree on this one.

I think even the BH people would beat on this hosting company as well.

Mecca Host responds;

Quote:
Mecca Hosting does absolutely none of the things that have been listed here. Google permanently removes sites that are involved in cloaking, which involves displaying different website content to search engines versus human visitors. ICANN regulates domain registrations and we would not be able to resell domains, if we were involved in domain hijacking. Further, we have no control over search engine listings and could not remove an indexed page; only the search engine can decide to remove a listing.

The incident that occurred had to do with Mecca Hosting's search engine promotion efforts that we do on behalf of our customers (included at no extra cost), leveraging our own promotion efforts on the MeccaHosting.com domain. We are able to get new clients a first page listing in many cases within 48 hours of activating their account with us; something that could not easily be done on their own. In this particular case, this customer did not want the listing so we removed it immediately after their request; however, the search engines do not visit sites frequently, so it took some time for the listing to be removed.

Mecca Hosting has been a member of the Better Business Bureau for many years and have an outstanding record with them because we are a customer-oriented company that genuinely works to help our customers. If we did not help our customers run successful websites, we would not still be in business after almost 8 years. In addition, we actually work hard to protect our customers from content theft and hacking through our proprietary bot-blocking system; something that other companies don't even try to do.

The discussion on this topic has been based on hearsay and not fact. It seems that as the thread continued, the story changed through the grapevine. The problem was solely with a search engine listing we helped them attain to promote their website that they did not wish to have, and we could not get it removed fast enough for them, which was not within our control.

Please feel free to research Mecca Hosting online, as you'll find that there is a large amount of positive feedback, and currently, this is the only negative one that came from a single customer and does not speak for tens of thousands of other clients.

Thank you for listening to our side of the story.

Sincerely,
http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showt...7&goto=newpost
Finally, after months their side of the story.

I don't have time to respond at Digital Point, but...

They claim they get thier clients first page listings within days of opening an account, and yet they turn around and say search engines don't visit sites often...

We all know that is BS!!

The first page listing they get their clients is at their domain, not the clients....and second, if they did what they said and got you first page listings the search engines would be spidering your site hourly not only daily!!

I never make any claims or promises of search engine placement or guarantees of serp placements. I offer seo consulting and help to my hosting clients should they decide they want it. Usually the first thing I tell them is the amount of WORK involved, and that it will take time to reach their goals.

There they go with the same BS! They changed my URL, I did not authorize nor want that. Nor did they ASK me if they could. It's crazy! Of course it takes time for google to put it back once it has been changed. The problem is I DIDN'T ASK FOR THAT IN THE FIRST PLACE. It was in their control by not doing it in the 1st place.

Calm down Mojo.

Great Job Greek!! I'm not a member there but I'll go over later and put in more .02's.

I agree Rick we all know SEO involves lots of hard work. The fees legitimate SEO companies charge is pretty high IMO for a reason.

Again, buyers beware any company promising quick serp placements legally are not places you want to deal with. Plus you run the risk of achieving the opposite.

Just a side note. If I recall Mecca Hosting are Redhat linux buffs. Good if good intentions are used.

A bit off topic but useful a quick money making scheme. Something everyone should avoid like small pox.

Spam email:

Quote:
Dear,

Can I speak to you in confidence...?

Thank you.

It's one of the conditions I was asked
of by an insider I'd like to introduce
you to in just a second.

So he's an insider?

Yes. But although that in itself means
there's money to be made here, it goes
a LOT deeper...

Once in a blue moon, you have a revelation.
Something which makes you kick yourself and
ask: "I can't believe I've been so blind!
How could I have missed this?"

I'm talking about a whole new income
bracket here... if you're interested in
getting on the fast track to 5 figures per
month from home, this will undoubtedly be
the most important free training you've
ever seen.

So you think this might be about investing,
blogging, eBay or Google ads don't you?

Think again!

You're about to walk into a whole new
cash generating world; the LARGEST and most
amazingly uncomplicated methods on the planet!

A mountain of solid-gold has passed us
by for a long time... but not anymore!

They can't keep the truth from us any longer...

This insider slapped a brown paper envelope on
my desk- a stack of highly confidential DVDs.
I watched... and realized I was about to make a
select number of my friends the proposition of
a lifetime... so here I am.

I must warn you though, what you're about to
watch is... well, a little stirring. You're
about to gain access to the exact "how-to"
blueprints of a 2.3 Million Dollar business,
it's ENTIRELY legal (or I wouldn't be mentioning
it to you!) and completely factual.

Just click below for all the details.

Regards,

Alex

P.S. I swear on my great great grandaddy's grave
that this is 100% legit and the videos are the

Some have no shame or no great great grandaddy.

Greek. I signed up at digital but did not receive the confirmation email. I think I it went to the spam folder.

I will copy it over to gpwa.

Once again, great job Greek!
