There is no magic number of words.

In reality, the amount of words will not affect the speed of your pages loading nearly as much as the total number and sizes of your images.

As an example, if you have a banner on a page that is over 100k, you could either reduce the banner by half to save 50k or you could take all the text off....

From a visitor or an SEO position, reducing the image makes more sense.

Question Thanks universal4...

Images have the most optimization effect and impact on page speed. By the way, one more questiin then : if we use the code directly from affiliate control panel ( i mean outhosting the image) what can we do to optimize ?

That is the problem if you decide to use the affiliate program's code and allow them to host the images... YOU CAN'T

If you place code on your site that has a 100k or 140k banner, there is no way to shrink the size of that banner and your page speed will be determined not only by the speed of the banner server but also by the size of the banners.

I never use an affiliate program's code and rely on their servers for any images. Not only can't you optimize the image, but if their server goes down, then the image won't load on your website. Its easier just to download it from them, and keep it on your server

I think its good to have at least 1 or 2 paragraphs of text on your homepage, but it doesn't really matter. The main thing is to have a good title and description, those parts are essential.

Pre-Panda updates in 2011, you could get away with less than 350-400 words but these days I find that 600-1000+ is the SEO 'sweet spot'.
